What is motherboard BIOS, how to identify BIOS version / date ?

BIOS (Basic Input Output System) is a set of computer program that contain the basic intelligence for the computer to do elementary jobs at the very low level, like Power On Self Test, configuring the display screen, access to storage devices....etc. This program is contained on non-volatile memory ICs, like Flash IC chips. The compatibility of the computer with add-on hardware and software are largely dependent on the BIOS. Each motherboard model has its dedicated BIOS. Motherboard BIOS is identified by its Tag Number (Project Number), and a build date in the form of 2Kyymmdd (Year - Month - Day). Tag Number and build date can be found at the Main Page after entering BIOS Setup.
